Homemade

Homemade Cough Syrup
Chop 1-2 large onions and place in a double boiler (check out my awesome homemade double boiler below :)) Cover the onions in honey, so that the honey is at least one half inch above the onions. Low heat for several hours. Strain and press out the liquid and use as a cough syrup. This can be used in a teaspoon every fifteen minutes or half hour (or longer), as needed.

This is the face mask I use. Super easy to make. You mix clay (I use Redmond, there are so many kinds out there) and water. That's it! It's takes a little bit to mix all the clumps in, but you just want the texture to be smooth and similar to toothpaste. After washing your face you apply a thin layer of this mask and let sit for about 20 minutes. If you start to get uncomfortable (it gets sort of tingly) as it dries then go ahead and rinse it off. I then apply a toner (either aloe vera or apple cider vinegar) and moisturize with an oil. My favorites are almond, apricot, jojoba, coconut...there's lots of good ones, I like to switch it up.

Homemade deodorant

1/4 C baking soda
1/4 C cornstarch (I used arrowroot powder)
4 T coconut oil
Essential oils

I melted the coconut oil, added the essential oils and then stirred in the dry ingredients. The recipe calls for 20 drops Melaleuca (kills germs) 10 drops Frankincense (breast cancer preventative) and 10 drops doTerra Whisper essential oil (makes it smell pretty). I put mine in an old deodorant container and let it set up in the fridge. So easy, paraben free, no aluminum, it's actually GOOD for your skin and it works!
If you don't like (or have) the Whisper smell, you could use lavender, lemongrass, grapefruit, whatever you like!

Using vinegar in the dishwasher

So we were at my sister's the other night and after dinner she was loading the dishwasher and right before she closed it I noticed she poured a little vinegar in the bottom of the door. So I asked her why, because I've been meaning to look up a way to use vinegar in our dishwasher because it has not been working well, the glass things come out SO cloudy and way worse than before we put them in. She told me the vinegar just helps clean the dishes better and helps with hard water build up. So I've been trying it, and it works so well! Our glass dishes come out sparkling clean! I didn't notice a big difference the first time, but ever since then the dishes look amazing!

Homemade Laundry Detergent

Loving this laundry soap! The ingredients cost me $16.86 at Wal-mart (I didn't use the Purex Crystals), I'm excited to see how long it lasts! Check it out here.

Homemade Body wash
8 oz. pump bottle
1/2 cup unscented Castile soap
4 tablespoons vegetable glycerin
3 tablespoons fractionated coconut oil
10 drops of your favorite essential oil

I've tried several homemade soaps before but this one is my favorite so far. Combine the ingredients in the pump bottle. Shake to combine. Make sure to shake before each use, because the ingredients will separate.

Remove warts naturally

I am super excited about this one! I LOVE that it really works! Each night before bed soak a small piece of cotton (just bigger than the wart) in apple cider vinegar, place over wart, and cover with a band-aid. Continue until the wart falls off. Or you can soak the area in the apple cider vinegar for 20 minutes a day, it will just take longer for the wart to fall off. In my experience, I was doing this on my foot where I had over 20 plantar warts! Sick! I know! I started with just 2 or 3 and I wasn't seeing much change in them and got discouraged, so I stopped. Then a couple weeks later I looked at the bottom of my foot and they were gone! I'd had these warts for years, I couldn't believe it! So I followed this same protocol for 3 or 4 nights in a row on the rest of my warts and within a couple weeks they were all gone! Love it!

  1. Where do you get your ingredients for your homemade body wash? Like the castile soap and vegetable glycerin?

  2. I got them at a health food store down here. I'm sure you could find them either at Wealth of Health or at Fred Meyer. The castile soap is called Dr. Bronner's, it's a pretty popular brand.
